Is there still a need for romance. As we approach Valentine’s Day, I’m asking what’s the point of this tradition. Cards, flowers, presents were given at times when there was segregation between men and women, and women were considered chattels – the property of men. Before love, marriage was usually done for improvement of prosperity or status. So why will we spend approx £20m on flowers alone in the UK and Americans spend $1bn alone on chocs, when women and men can interact freely in any way they wish? PositiveTv decided to investigate what people thought of the question
