Bill Becker at Copenhagen

PTV interviews Climate Campaigner Bill Becker (Founder, of the USA’s Presidential Climate Action Plan) PTV secured an exclusive interview with Bill Becker, Founder of PCAP (The Presidential Climate Action Plan), an organisation that came into being some three years ago in order to present a series of energy and climate policy policies to the then still unknown incoming US President. “We gathered the findings, thoughts and advice from America’s leading experts in the fields of energy and climate,” said Bill. “We wanted to do the advance thinking, research and consultation so the incoming president could take actions fast. We came up with more than 200 proposals covering 14 widely varying topics and presented them to Obama’s Office in November 2008 straight after he was elected,” explained Bill. “My hope, from a US perspective, is that President Obama comes to Copenhagen and announces a significant commitment to cut US emissions by something like 45% by 2020. This is an aggressive figure, but one that is achievable if the political will exists. We need to empower our leaders to do what they want to do,” he added.
